Oriental, NC

Life moves slowly in this welcoming village. The harbor is the heart of Oriental, with scenic views of the water, boats and marinas. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Boats and bikes rest against dock pilings and porch railings. Talking and walking may not be considered official recreational activities in most towns but in Oriental, they fit with the feel of a quaint waterfront town where biking, sailing, kayaking, fishing, and boating are popular pastimes. Long known as the "Sailing Capital of North Carolina," Oriental is blessed with wide waters, steady winds and easy access to dozens of creeks and estuaries. The town lives up to its moniker with numerous options for boating services and supplies.
The annual Croaker Festival is a celebration of Oriental's fishing heritage and includes live music, food, arts and crafts, and a parade. It is held the last week in June. The annual Oriental Boat Show is held in April. This event draws thousands of visitors with hundreds of boats on display, plus vendors and live music. As a nod to the town's mascot, dragon boat races are held every August. (Dragons lurk throughout the village.)
