South Bight

Description:
South Bight is narrower than Middle Bight, but the entrance is essentially a straight line from the Tongue of the Ocean making entry straightforward. The anchorage is protected from the southeast through to north but it is exposed to the northeast. When there are strong northeasterlies blowing the farther into the bight you go, the calmer it will be. The holding is good provided you avoid the patches of grass that in some areas can be quite thick.
South Bight is the closest anchorage to Congo Town airport. And a long walk away from the dinghy landing. There are daily direct flights by Makers Air to Fort Lauderdale, which makes this a good location to pick up visiting crew. It is also the easiest anchorage from which to get a propane tank filled. There are two small grocery stores in Driggs Hill on the south side of the Bight that offer a useful assortment of supplies.

Plenty of room and Excellent holding. Put out a little extra chain, the current can be strong. Protection from E-NE winds. Lots of dinghy exploration available. (No wifi - accidentally hit a star and can't turn it off)
