Description:
Nice fair weather anchorage with protection only from the north. Some but not all waves from the bay diminished by the point. Plenty of room for several boats. This time we were one of eight and still not crowded. Great staging spot for Great Bridge to south or Solomons to north with less time and mileage off bay than lower side of Deltaville. Use caution coming in after dark as there is a fish weir impoundment just west of the lighthouse along with the remains of a duck blind near shore. There is an excellent white sandy beach for the four legged crew but since the area is a nature preserve they should be leashed and visit kept brief.

August 2025 and my first anchorage at New Point Comfort. I drifted in as close as I felt comfortable. The bottom was sandy and water. I hand-pulled my boat as close as I could get just until my wing keel touched the sand. We were just after low tide. I managed to get about 150 yards from the beach so the walk in wasn't bad. (No dinghy yet.)

There were lots of small power boats pulled near the shore and a few larger sailboats farther out than I was.

The beach is very nice. Not crazy wide but it's the west bank of the Chesapeake. It's a great spot to hang out and enjoy.

On our trip north after departing Atlantic Yacht Basin and transiting through Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Navy Yard, we set sail with a fresh breeze ending up in Mobjack Bay. Originally our plan was to go up into one of the creeks but we had a light north breeze and plenty of swinging room. One of the more pleasant stops along the way to the Solomans. The New Point Lighthouse is the 3ed oldest lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay and the 10th oldest in the United States. In fair weather its a great stop.

It's been a while since I was here, but I used this as a stopover on my way to Deltaville. It was a calm mid-summer afternoon. Dropped the hook in 8 feet of water. Good holding in sand. A great sunset. This is in open water so make sure you don't have wind from any direction except north. As stated in the description, this is a good spot for resuming your travels up or down the Bay because its close to open water. The lighthouse is a charming addition to the view.
