5/19/2024. The dam spillway dumps into the upbound approach to L45 blue line wall. On the upbound approach under Bridge Hwy 400 water is channeled into a narrow channel and buoys will alert you to strong currents. On my upbound approach to Bridge Hwy 400 the buoys were dancing, in the pool the spillway was dumping water. With the addition of flow discharge from the L45, water conditions were turbulent bordering on white-water conditions.

Concur with 2019 comments. CA 400 bridge had a noticeable current. Channel under bridge is tiny, one large boat at a time. The channel to Huron has two choices, the shorter one has some narrow spots and tight turns. It had me holding my breath a few places.

Smallest lock in the system, and can be slow transiting. Ample tie up space above, and suggest try to transit first thing. Three restaurants in the area, best would be Rawley lodge, which also offers transient tie up, but reserve at least 2-3 days ahead. Below lock can become tricky with lots of markers, and tight turns. Suggest use of VHF radio and securite call, to avoid meeting other boats in some very tight spots. Liquor store and some groceries nearby.
