It's with heavy hearts that we share the news of Ted Stehle's passing this past Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Ted was more than just a colleague—he was part of the Waterway Guide family. For decades, even before our current ownership, Ted played a central role in the heart of Waterway Guide. Ted managed Waterway Guide's Navigation Alerts, reviewed and edited reader's submissions and reviews, and brought a level of care and precision that set high standards at Waterway Guide Media. If you've used our information and found it helpful, there's a good chance Ted had a hand in it.
He also led the charge on our Skipper Bob publications, carrying forward a resource that thousands of boaters rely on for navigating America's waterways and The Bahamas.
Outside of Waterway Guide, Ted was deeply involved in the America's Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA). He didn't just support the Looper community, he was part of it, having completed the Great Loop multiple times himself. He understood life on the water because he lived it.
Many of you may have met Ted at AGLCA events or boat shows, or maybe you exchanged emails or messages with him through our online platforms. He had a dedicated and thoughtful way of engaging with people, and he always made time to help.
Ted was one of those rare people who never sought the spotlight but made a lasting impact on everyone he worked with and on the boating community as a whole. Our thoughts are with his wife, Audrey, and their family.
We lost a giant with the passing of Ted Stehle. His energy, intelligence, and commitment made all of us here at Waterway Guide better, on and off the water. He loved his family, boating, and golf to the very end. Smooth sailing, fair winds, and following seas, Ted. You left a lasting mark in our hearts.
