Heading northbound, we arrived just after an opening. Bridge tender advised us it would be 15 minutes before she could open again. We hovered until the opening happened, which was within the timeframe notified.

Socastee Swing Bridge closure. Drivers will have to use Hwy 544 instead of the Socastee Swing Bridge from Jan. 17-21. SC DOT According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the swing bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will shut down for maintenance at 9 p.m. on Jan. 17 and is expected to reopen at 6 a.m. on Jan. 21. Mobile electronic signs will be set up to warn drivers of the closure. Dick Pond Road will be open to local traffic except near the bridge area. https://www.myhorrynews.com

    • WG Editor Comment:

Waterway Guide has not found a Broadcast Notice to Mariners nor a posting in the 7th District Notice to Mariners indicating that the waterway will be closed to marine traffic.

Called on 9 response was quick. Call a little before you get to the highway bridge so it has time to open. No current when we went through. 3-4 minutes from call to open.

Bridge tenders pleasant and professional on all our passages through. Good about not delaying opening.
