Piankatank River - Stamper's Bay
- Location: Piankatank River
- Lat / Lon: N 37° 31.395' / W 076° 26.409'
- Depth: 8
- Tide: 1
- Description:
Large horseshoe-shaped bay just upstream of the fixed Twiggs Ferry Road/VA-3 bridge. 43-ft charted clearance, the tide boards were showing 41' when we were there. Lots of room for many boats. You can anchor wherever is best for the wind. If the wind were from the South, you can anchor North of Berkley Island. There were no other boats when we anchored here for two nights. The western side of the Bay is all woods, no houses. Very quiet. We saw a couple of crabbers and a few fishermen/women. Saw a couple of bald eagles and blue herons and other birds.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
