- Description:
The Gibson Cay anchorage in Middle Bight is one of the best kept secrets in the Bahamas. Originally set up as an anchorage by the US Navy to handle warships, the channel into the anchorage is deep, exceeding 15’ for much of its length. Once inside the anchorage the holding is excellent and winds under 20 knots will have little impact even though the area seems relatively unprotected. When the winds exceed 25 knots from the southwest there will be a light chop in the anchorage, but it will not be objectionable for most crews.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
