Nassau Harbour Western Anchorage

  • Lat / Lon: N 25° 04.844' / W 077° 20.153'
  • Depth: 8'-15'
  • Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
  • Description:

The Western Anchorage in Nassau Harbour is the well protected space between the cruise ship terminal and Potters Cay. It is possible to anchor anywhere you are not blocking traffic but the holding is tricky in many areas, There is an elongated hard bar that runs down the middle of the anchorage that offers very poor holding particularly along its south side in front of the Bay Street Marina. Do not anchor here unless you always leave a competent person onboard. The areas with the best holding are between the cruise ship docks and the western end of the bar, and between the eastern end of the bar and Potters Cay. If the harbour is busy, the north side of the bar in water deeper than 12’ is a viable choice although the holding is not as good. The north side of the bar is recommended only if the other areas are full.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
