Man-O-War Scopley Rock

  • Location: Abaco
  • Lat / Lon: N 26° 36.077' / W 077° 00.883'
  • Depth: 10'-12'
  • Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
  • Description:

Scopley Rock is an awash hard bar that guards the northern entrance into Man-o-War Harbour. Dickies Cay is a small private Island that forms the south side of the main harbour of Man-o-War. The two points define an anchorage area that are just north and south of the northern entrance into Man-o-War Harbour. They are similar, but each has its following that swears to a difference between the two. You can be the best judge.

Vessels that are visiting Man-o-War will find acceptable shelter from prevailing conditions by anchoring anywhere between the north end of Dickies Cay and Scopley Rock in 10'-12' of water. The holding is good and protection from northeast through east-southeast will provide a decent night’s sleep for most even when the winds exceed 20 knots. Vessels have even been known to anchor in this area for the passage of cold fronts, however there are better choices nearby if frontal weather is expected.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
