Calcasieu River, East of R106

  • Location: Calcasieu River
  • Lat / Lon: N 30° 08.688' / W 093° 19.563'
  • Depth: 10 feet +
  • Description:

February 15, 2022. Sam of WhatYachtToDo on a training and delivery journey. Sea Ray 480MY with a 4-ft draft. Got to this area just before sunset westbound after clearing the Calcasieu Lock upon opening at 5:15pm. I had considered the Calcasieu River Oxbow anchorage to the east, but due to a strong S wind we elected to go just east of R106, as it offered better protection from the S wind. I dropped the anchor at 30°8.682'N - 93°19.553'W in 10-11' of water. Held nicely in 18 miles per hour. Anchor came up nicely, but it and the chain had a lot of black mud on it that came off fairly easily with some bucket washes.
