Bay Mills Point - Waiska Bay
- Location: Lake Superior
- Lat / Lon: N 46° 25.738' / W 084° 34.633'
- Depth: 6 to 8 feet
- Description:
Mostly suitable for shallow-draft boats or for those with local knowledge. There is a charted submerged railroad bed with decaying pilings that run south, parallel to Bay Mills Point. Turning in close to the point, and keeping a good lookout, you can safely anchor in 7 to 10 feet of water just inside of the point and east of the submerged railroad bed. Very close in to shore are additional submerged pilings to avoid as well as an old U.S. Corps of Engineers metal dock; both are notated on the charts. The remainder of the bay is shallow.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
